Art Works > Exploring Drawing Techniques and Drawing Materials: From the Ice Age to the present.

Goya was a great draughtman. In the later years of his life due to a severe illness he lost his hearing I am sure he felt a feeling of isolation. For me his work took a darker turn called the black period paintings. His drawings started to reflect critics of religion, superstition and the ills of society against a revolutionary period in Spain. In this drawing I have tried to catch by the use of black ink washes and smudging that change that was apparent in his work. Goya's Caprices his great etchings series are worth looking at for the brilliant technique .
