Titanic Elegies. Gerry Gleason. 2012. Dedicated to Dr Robert Ballard.
I have tried in the series of Elegies, through colour and objects, to change the mood as events unfolded. The choices of prehistoric bones to represent the ship's great structure, spine, keel etc. and the mannequins simply the people. The watches indicate the generally agreed time of the collision with the Iceberg on 14th April 1912 and the sinking of the ship on the 15th April 1912. This image reminds of the boatmen on the west coast of Ireland instead of carrying a coracle, they carry the broken pieces of the great ship, almost like coffin bearers at a wake.
