Art Works > Exploring Drawing Techniques and Drawing Materials: From the Ice Age to the present.

I have always liked Matisse's drawing from the Nice period France where he had a studio. The drawings made in the 1930s have a marvellous use of loosing the image and reclaiming it, with much corrections and rubbings of the charcoal. This technique giving a hazy feeling to the drawing, but with his masterly use of line finally bringing clarity to the overall composition. I have chosen to use sanguine pastel instead of charcoal to enhance the idea of rest and sleep.
