Exploring Drawing Techniques and Drawing Materials: From the Ice Age to the present.
Frans Hals. 1581-1666.Frans Hals (1581-1666), Was born 25 years before Rembrandt. Rembrandt must have looked at Hals work as a young artist. Hals would have been well established when Rembrandt was forging his early career. I recently visited a large exhibition in London of Hals work and seen his amazing draughtsmanship and virtuoso paint handling. Hals seemed to find the joyous side of life more attractive to him, from Rich merchants, Politicians to poorer musicians in the local Taverns he treated them all equally. When Rembrandt reached his maturity to me, he surpassed Hals with his compositional strength and insight into the human condition. Vincent van Gogh greatly admired both painters. In my interpretation of this work, I have used the idea of Negotiator who deals with Wars & Conflicts as the Original sitter was an Ambassador. I have used Brown ink which would have been popular at that time .
