This image of a man left behind in that strange No Man’s land between warring factions. The effects of constant bombardments left many with severe shell shock, pushing many to the brink of losing their reason. It was not diagnosed till 1917 many before this time being blamed as shirkers or cowards when in fact it was an illness caused by the weapons of industrialised warfare.
