I feel in this image I was looking down my life and some of the events that had shaped me as an artist over a long career of forty years. A looking back, but also a looking forwards to a more peaceful future. The painting includes artists I have admired, Van Gogh, Cezanne, but also family, things that were important to me and the hope that a new generation would not live through the violence and conflict of the past in the North of Ireland.
