This work was part of a series of works curated by Declan McGonagle, the then Director of The Orchard Gallery in Derry L/Derry. In fact the City was given the name / city by the broadcaster Gerry Anderson, a form of Northern humour of survival.
Though the jumping off point for the exhibition was the historic siege of the City, for me it became a metaphor for the siege of the mind during the N.Ireland Troubles. The
community of the north seems in a vice like grip of teeth. The artist's pallette a symbol for
creativity's attempt trying to record the complexity of it all.
