More Selected Works 2006-2010. Gerry Gleason.
This painting is about the mad risks taken by some sections of the world financial community.
I had made an earlier body of work called 'Paper Kingdoms' (mixed media on paper) and felt
that the scale of what was happening needed scale to deal with the concept. I have used various references, throughout the overall Frieze, to Greek myths. In this work, for example The Trojan Horse to represent the sub prime mortgage scandal. The Goddess Athena points to the gambler who has just lost trillions of the Worlds Banking Reserves. We are all about to pay for this, he looks on sheepishly as if it is nothing to do with him, just a bad at the office.
