Marguerite Henry's Matisse's daughter posed for Matisse many times in the early part of his career as did other members of the family. In this work using sanguine pit oil pencil, I have brought together two works of Matisse from different periods. His beautiful pen drawing of Marguerite and a self portrait by Matisse which the original was in charcoal. By changing the medium to sanguine I been able to change the feel of the work by retaining the flowing effect of the hair. I hope I have been able to create an intriguing space by Marguerite holding a self portrait of Matisse drawn by Matisse and yet Marguerite has been drawing Matisse in the first place.
